Across Ireland, use of bicycles to travel to work has decreased, except in Dublin where it is increasing. Between the 2002 and 2006, means of travel to work by bike has increased by 6% amongst Dubliners.
The quick, easy and convenient way to travel around a compact city like Dublin, the bike is also an environmentally friendly means of travel.
- 54% of Dubliners are worried about pollution and congestion caused by cars
- 60% of Dubliners say they take positive steps to reduce the energy they use

In addition to Dubliners being able to access this new mode of transport, 5.6 million tourists who visit the capital per year will now be able to hop on a db to take them from one destination to the next.
The majority of tourists are from Britain or mainland Europe so will be familiar with other bike schemes operating in cities such as Paris, Seville, Lyon and Vienna
