Joe Murray – the man in a million on dublinbikes!
25 year old Joe Murray from Clondalkin in west Dublin was the lucky one millionth cyclist on dublinbikes when he travelled from Chatham Street near Grafton Street to Jervis Street on Saturday 14th August at 7.30pm.
Joe is a frequent dublinbikes user and has made more than 150 journeys back and forth across the city since dublinbikes launched less than a year ago on September 13th 2009. Joe said the scheme was really useful, and he uses the bikes about 5 to 10 times a week. The one millionth journey took Joe from his workplace to the cinema.
dublinbikes has been a huge success for the city and to mark the one million milestone, JCDecaux, the company who operate dublinbikes on behalf of Dublin City Council gave Joe a weekend break for two in Paris, including flights, two nights in a top hotel, and €2,000 in cash. The prize was presented by the city’s Lord Mayor Gerry Breen on Tues 17th August at the dublinbikes station in Barnardos Square.
dublinbikes is proving to be one of the most successful of its kind in the world and work on the first phase of expansion has already begun with 100 new bikes, 4 new stations and 300 new bike stands being added.
