3 years on and the wheels are still turning…

(30/10/2012)

It has been over 3 years since dublinbikes was introduced to the streets of Dublin and the scheme is now firmly established as part of daily life in Ireland’s capital city. Over 4 million journeys have been taken to date and with each bike being used on average 10 times a day, it is one of the busiest bike share rental schemes in the world.

Dubliners and visitors to the city use the bikes for short hops to get to and from work, linking up public transport and visiting the various shopping and leisure areas in the city centre. It’s sometimes hard to imagine our city streets now without a dublinbike cycling past!

dublinbikes at a glance:

  • Launched September 2009
  • Over 4 million journeys to date
  • Rental record: 7,052 journeys on 13th October, 2011
  • Average duration of a journeys is approx 13 minutes
  • 95% of journeys are free
  • Each bike is rented on average 10 times a day
